Sweet Summer Frocks

With Summer just around the corner, there’s no better time than the present to stock up on some pretty dresses to echo the season’s romantic mood. When updating your wardrobe, look for pieces like flowing frocks and powder-toned accessories, which fit the season’s ‘Dress Renaissance’ theme.

To save you the time of trawling the shops, we’ve teamed up with McArthurGlen Designer Outlets to tour the UK and share some of our favourite pieces that will help you work this romantic summer trend like a pro. We spotted these garments on our recent trip to the Swindon Centre…

As well as helping to create the effect of an hourglass figure, flowing skater skirt dresses are perfect for staying cool in the warm weather.

A classic two-tone frock that features universally flattering colours should be a staple in your wardrobe. Opt for one that’s smart-casual, so that you can dress it up or down depending on the occasion.

If you think a summer romance may be on the cards, then maximise your chances of falling in love by wearing a flirty, romantic dress, like this high-neck pink frock.

Swimwear Trends

With summer – almost – in sight, shopping for a new season is a highlight for us at Grazia. Alongside Al fresco lunching and talk of where you will go on holiday in three months’ time. But unless you are planning on vetoing beaches, lidos and lazy afternoons tanning altogether – don’t forget to pack your SPF 50 face cream, folks! – thoughts may have turned to your swimwear of choice. Let’s face it: guys have it pretty easy, simply opting for a pair of (no doubt black) swimming shorts…or speedos if you are so inclined. Swimwear for women? There’s a lot more groundwork involved. Is underwire swimwear a better option? Bikini vs. one-piece? Frills vs. keeping things #basic?

And if you’re anything like us, you may have now turned to social media when planning what to pack for your next getaway (sure, you haven’t even booked the trip yet). So we decided to get the lowdown on this season’s biggest swimwear trends, according to Pinterest…

The classic ‘all in one’ or ‘one piece’ has seen a 675% increase (!) in people saving ideas since the beginning of this year. And our favourite ‘affordable luxe’ brands are killing it in the cossie game RN – see Reformation, Ganni and Weekday if you don’t believe us. Comfortable, flattering and you can wear underneath your cut off jeans for a cool Gigi Hadid hanging off-duty in St Tropez vibe.

The retro nautical beach-side option was the most sought after last year – thanks to Taylor Swift’s so Instagram-perfect-it-hurts 4th July party with Gigi, Cara and co. So, if you loved Swifty and her squad’s red, white, and blue Solid & Striped swimwear then – you’ll be all over the brand’s updated Anne-Marie’ navy and white option this season. Your #1 essential to nail French Riviera chic.

If you’re after a more playful option, Bardot-style swimwear is guarteed to earn you fashion kudos at the pool. Pinterest have noticed a spike in pins with off-shoulder swimwear. To make a sartorial splash this season turn to the ‘It’ label loved by Rihanna and Beyoncé: Lisa Marie Fernandez. Her cult ‘Leandra’ bikini is the crème de la crème of off-shoulder bikinis, which also doubles as a crop top too. Sold.

Fashion Brand Will Look Like

Preppy! Androgynous! Effortlessly chic! Just a few fashion style notes to takeaway if you’ve ever perused the Alexa Chung archives. She’s been our go-to girl for fashion inspo since the former model popped up on our TV screens in the mid-noughties (RIP Popworld). The skinny jeans? The tux redux? ‘60s-style make-up? Dreamy. So, it perhaps came as little surprise last year when AC – who has previously designed sold out collections for AG Jeans and Madewell – announced plans to launch her very own fashion brand ALEXACHUNG.

‘After many seasons of inspiring and eye opening collaborations with some of my favourite brands, I have decided that now is the perfect time to go it alone and establish my very own fashion line,’ Alexa says.

‘I have been fortunate enough to have found a wonderful team from various corners of the fashion industry and beyond to help realise my vision and make this lifelong dream a reality,’ she adds. ‘We hope to bring you wearable, cool clothing you can live in and love in, whilst exploring the sartorial relationship between masculinity and femininity, something that has been a cornerstone of my personal style since I was old enough to dress myself.’

And ahead of the official brand launch on 30th May, the fashion icon has finally dropped serious hints over what to expect from her new collection – releasing a logo, website (alexachung.com), Instagram account (@alexachungstagram) and short film entitled ‘ALEXACHUNG Dressage’.The film, directed by Grammy-nominated filmmakers and artists Daniel and Lorin Askill, serves as a ‘an homage both to Alexaʼs past and future.’

Alexa says: ‘[It’s a tongue in cheek celebration of the dedication, precision, skill and determination needed to develop and create something aesthetically pleasing, coupled with the feeling that you could spend endless amounts of time trying to create something that means a lot to you, hoping that some might appreciate it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.’

Cool Swimwear Line

Swimwear shopping. It’s enough hassle to make us want to give up entirely, and revert back to that bikini we bought five years ago. That, actually, you don’t really like that much anymore. But still. Though if this season should teach you anything when planning your holiday wardrobe, it’s that there is a new beach-side option for everyone.

The cossie is cool again (thanks to the Insta-set going mad over Ganni and Hunza G’s fun and flattering options). Stripes, frills and gingham are #trending on social media. And there’s a roster of new cult brands to get on your radar too, if you’re bored of your usual high-street suspects.

But for those who are simply after a chic, red swimsuit a la Mickey in ‘Love’ or a no-fuss, block colour bikini? You are in luck my friend. As Weekday just dropped the most stylish, affordable (prices start at £8) and eco-friendly swim collection(the collection is made from recycled waste materials).

‘It feels great to be able to give our customers such a nice looking and versatile collection, made from low-impact materials,’ says Louise Lasson, Creative Director at Weekday. ‘This season sharp simplicity meets sporty elements, giving way to refined details such as ultra-thin straps, fine ribbing and cleans lines as well as sporty details such as high-neck lines, thick straps, raw elastic bands and buckles.

‘A vibrant colour palette of yellow, red, pink, tan and black encourages a mix-and-match approach,’ she says. ‘Creating a range of options that are both modern and flattering.’

Fashion Items You Need To Pack on Travelling

We’re swiftly approaching the pivotal sartorial point of the year. Come May, it’s too early to start prepping for our annual summer getaway yet with the influx of bank holiday weekends, we’re desperately seeking the sun. That’s right, we’re finally approaching city break season.

But with limited bag allowance, how can we possibly pack for every potential Instagram opportunity?

Whether you’re planning to explore Copenhagen by bicycle or hoping to catch the rays in colourful Lisbon, we’ve curated the perfect capsule wardrobe. So leave your sartorial dilemmas to us and instead concentrate on sourcing go-to spots ahead of your trip.

The Colourful Co-Ord

Trust us, there’s no greater investment than a tailored two-piece. And this mustard combo courtesy of Zara is sure to prove a hit with the fashion crowd.

Pair the look with box-fresh trainers and you’ll be able to cycle through the cobbled streets of Copenhagen to hit up the sights, i.e. & Other Stories. Just before peddling to the local for a nightcap and switching your Nike Cortez for pastel hued mules.

The blazer is the most interchangeable piece too of course, as you can team the mustard jacket with a pie-curst collar shirt and jeans in a matter of minutes.

The Day-To-Night Trainers

We apologise for sounding like your mum, but we will not allow you to book a city break before investing in a brilliant pair of box-fresh trainers. If you fancy sporting athleisure, invest in a pair of Nike Cortez (we recommend the red and white lace-ups).
